Color: light, gray-green to dark green, opaque, often with mottled coloring. It is easily confused with green aventurine and jadeite (which belongs to the same family).

History:

Its name is believed to come from the Greek nephros, meaning kidney. Even today, it is regarded as a guardian stone and healer of the kidneys.

Jade is a stone with a long history and has been part of Asian philosophy for centuries. It was considered a sacred stone from which the throne of Buddha was made. In the 12th century, the Chinese described its properties in a treatise consisting of 100 volumes and 700 color illustrations.

The Maya of South America regarded it as a special cult mineral.

As early as 5,000 years ago, the Chinese valued jade as an imperial stone. They called it the stone of heaven and associated it with the five main human virtues – compassion, modesty, courage, justice and wisdom.

In China, it was believed that jade, when carved and worn in the shape of a heart, protected that organ from all kinds of harm. Jade was also set into various weapons and carved with sacred symbols. The Chinese still regard it as a national stone. It is believed to protect against earthquakes and lightning and to bestow longevity.

Healing and magical properties: For millennia, it has symbolized the forces that renew life and has been regarded as a guardian of the heart and kidneys.

When in physical contact with the body, it is said to support the restoration of the nervous system and balance the functioning of all organs. It is believed to protect against various critical conditions, including hypertensive crises.

It is recommended that jade always be kept close to its owner – carried in a bag or pocket, or worn as jewelry. Whenever tension or emotional or physical discomfort is felt, it is placed on the third-eye area – between the eyebrows.

It is believed to have an especially beneficial effect in cases of anxiety and fear-related neuroses.

Jade is considered one of the strongest stimulators of a person’s creative energy.

It is also called the stone of dreams. A strongly protective stone, it is believed to shield its wearer from evil and negative energies. It is said to protect children especially well from illness and to provide psychic protection.

At night, a piece of jade under the pillow is believed to eliminate nightmares.
