Planetary Yantras

Planetary Yantras

Every planet, in addition to its special Mantra (often more than one – Mantras are special sound energies), has a special Yantra. A Yantra is a particular energy diagram. It is regarded as the visible form of an energy body – in this case, of a specific planetary energy.

There are two types of Yantras: numerical and geometric. The first type is expressed through magic squares, while the second resembles mandalas. The most widespread and best known is the Shri Yantra (we will prepare a separate article about it).

Unlike precious and semi-precious stones, Yantras are not believed to produce negative results.

Solar Yantra

All Yantras originate from the Solar Yantra. The Sun is number 1. Like every Yantra, it shows the manifestation of Solar energy. Five is a creative number – the number of manifestation. According to ancient Vedic beliefs, everything is made of five elements – fire, earth, water, air and ether. We all have five sensory organs, five organs of action and five limbs. The total of the sides and diagonals in the numerical matrix is 15. The sum of all the numbers is 45 – or 9 × 5 – and represents the complete development of the fivefold solar power.

This same numerical sequence, called the Writing of the Lo River or the Book of Lo, is the basis of the I Ching, which in turn forms a basis of Chinese astrology. Thus, in these numbers we see a key to the whole of Oriental astrology.

Lunar Yantra

The Lunar Yantra is based on the number two. Just as the number one increases to two in this Yantra, all other numbers increase by one – the total is 18, the number that completes the lunar manifestation. The overall sum for the Lunar Yantra is 54.

In addition to the Planetary Yantras, there are also special geometric Yantras inscribed with mantras or the different names of the planets. One of the most widespread is the triangular Yantra of Mars. For Shani (Saturn), special Yantras exist that are made from five metals and inscribed with the names of Saturn.

Planetary Yantras corresponding to their respective deities are also frequently used. They can be successfully used to balance planetary influences. The Shri Yantra, the most widespread and familiar to many, is perhaps the best for this purpose. For any Yantra to have an effect, it should be used together with the corresponding mantras, rituals and meditation. Some of the typical deities are:

Sun – Surya Yantra, Gayatri Yantra, Vishnu Yantra

Moon – Shri Yantra, Lakshmi Yantra

Jupiter – Ganesh Yantra

Mercury – Vishnu Yantra

Venus – Shri Yantra, Lakshmi Yantra

Rahu – Kali Yantra, Durga Yantra

Ketu – Mahamrityunjaya Yantra

You have certainly noticed that the same Yantras can be used for different planetary influences.
