Stones – Talismans and Amulets

A talisman changes a person’s character, but keep in mind that a person also changes the talisman.

A talisman is an object intended to bring happiness and success to its owner. One of the many roles of a talisman is to strengthen and support certain qualities and character traits, contribute to their development, attract attention, and seemingly create a microclimate favorable to the expression of positive qualities.

An amulet (an object worn on the body and believed to be a magical means of protection against illness or misfortune) is intended to protect its owner from unwanted outside influences.

It helps focus the subconscious mind on detecting the first signs of impending danger, still unnoticed by the active consciousness, strengthens instinctive impulses from the subconscious that prompt a person to escape the threat and leave an unsafe place.

As a rule, every stone, regardless of its type, possesses the properties of both a talisman and an amulet, which should be taken into account when choosing a piece of jewelry. Unfortunately, these two different concepts are often confused even by authors of authoritative encyclopedias, not to mention by ordinary people.

Amulets and stone talismans charged with prayers help strengthen the positive influence of the stone on a person and make it easier to establish contact with it quickly.

TALISMAN STONES

According to traditional Chinese medicine, all transparent stones correspond to the active masculine Yang principle, while all opaque stones carry the characteristics of the passive feminine Yin principle. White, completely transparent stones correspond to the element of Light, the highest manifestation of all elements; transparent red and orange stones correspond to the element of Fire, while the other colors of transparent stones represent the “signatures” of other planets. Translucent stones correspond to the element of Air, while opaque stones correspond to the elements of Water and Earth. Regarding “water” stones, it should be noted that they are believed to be able to change color depending on a person’s condition; often they display shifting flashes and a glow from within, as if light were splashing inside them. This especially applies to opal, where fiery-water processes are expressed very vividly. Opal represents and symbolizes the deep, reserve forces of water, capable of breaking down dam walls. Minerals are formed over very long periods of time. Different planets are believed to take part in this process, but one of them plays the leading role. Here an analogy is drawn with conception and fetal development, influenced by all the planets, while its monadic essence is always connected with one leading planet.

Everyone can benefit from mother-of-pearl. We are all constantly exposed to emotionally unbalanced people. At work, on the road or near home, you may notice how a mother-of-pearl necklace creates a wonderful protective “cushion” against other people’s energy. It is considered very effective while remaining gentle in its influence. Such a necklace or bracelet can be a wonderful gift for a loved one, teaching them to shelter behind an energetic “cushion” rather than deflecting the blow. Such a simple effort is believed to minimize the loss sustained.

For some people, wearing “tisrati” (a necklace placed on the forehead) is considered useful. Wearing it this way directs the influence of gemstones toward the brain and the mental aspects of a person.

A necklace can be wound into a spiral and worn over painful or injured areas of the body. Such a procedure is believed to soothe the painful area, while the wearer may realize what is needed to relieve stress or disharmony.

Opening the “lines of communication” between body and mind is said to be one of the missions of lavender amethyst. When these channels are active, you begin to recognize inner signals of unease. A part of the body may trouble you because you have ignored its needs while, at the same time, listening to other voices.

Imagine that you are standing on a giant network of communication lines and that the vibrations of lavender amethyst are rushing along the “wires” of the nerves toward the affected area of the body, like a messenger dressed in lavender clothing.

Use small smooth mineral stones for acupressure lithotherapy, attaching them to problem areas (pain points) with adhesive tape for anywhere from a few minutes to several hours. The easing of pain is considered a sign that the influence has been sufficient. Choose the color of the stone according to its harmony with the organ, using a dowsing rod or pendulum.
